SUMMARY:Washington DC Premiere: Apollo 1
DESCRIPTION:This film shares the personal story of three exceptional astronauts who were part of America’s great quest to reach the Moon. Gus Grissom\, Ed White and Roger Chaffee were the first crew selected to fly an Apollo mission\, buoyed by NASA’s earlier success with Gemini in 1965-66. But their prototype Saturn 1B spacecraft was full of design and manufacturing flaws – and a disaster was waiting to happen. The events that followed shook the US space program to the core\, and left a lasting impact on their families and on all space flights ever since. With exceptional access granted to the production team\, along with previously unseen personal archive\, APOLLO 1 is a story of jeopardy\, tragedy and recovery\, as told by those who were closely involved. Directed by Mark Craig. (Runtime: 102 minutes.) \n\n\n\nThe screening will be followed by a conversation with Dominic Gill (Cinematographer) & Nadia Gill (Line Producer)\, moderated by Katrina Jackson (Science Communicator & Filmmaker). \n\n\n\nThis event is a partnership program between the National Archives Foundation and the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital (dceff.org).
