The National Archives Foundation Opens Sixth-Annual Application for Cokie Roberts Women’s History Fellowship

Published on:

WASHINGTON, D.C.–The National Archives Foundation, the nonprofit partner of the National Archives and Records Administration, opened applications for the sixth-annual Cokie Roberts Women’s History Fellowship. The fellowship was launched in 2019 to continue Cokie’s trailblazing legacy of highlighting the undertold or unknown stories of women who have worked to build our nation through the records held by the National Archives.

The fund will award up to $12,500 to support fellowships for emerging and established historians, journalists, authors, or graduate students who perform and publish new research for the general public to elevate women’s history using the holdings in the National Archives.

“Women have always played a significant role in the fabric of our nation,” said Chair and President of the National Archives Foundation Board of Directors, Secretary Rodney Slater. “The Cokie Roberts Women’s History Fellowship supports researchers working to elevate these rich stories using records from the National Archives. These scholars exemplify Cokie’s lifelong mission of uncovering and sharing the impact of these women for generations to come.”

The National Archives Foundation has already awarded $75,000 in grants to five groups of scholars. The previously selected fellows studied topics ranging from women’s involvement with the U.S. Forest Service to Black women within the Freedmen’s Bureau court system. The work of the fellows will be featured in National Archives programming and through the Foundation’s digital channels.

Applications for the fellowship are now open and close on April 15, 2026. For more information about the fellowship, FAQs, and the application process, please visit https://archivefoundation.demo.cmsminds.net/cokie-roberts-fellowship/.
